image is what matters sarah not true history.
the problem with these reforms is that none of us know what they actually entail.
we are fed sound bites not details, "change" is not necessarily good as those in favour of the reforms will try to peddle.
Bern
The details are in the Bill Howard , but like so many things , to really understand the implications one has to know how the system already works and what the "words" will really mean . Its not an easy process to unpick it all , and has absolutley nothing to do with intellegence or education just knowing what is really meant by the terms used .
The nearest explaination I can get to describe how Labyrinthal the structure of the NHS is . Is imagine yourself in one of Kafkas novels written in a language you dont speak while someone plays white noise in your ears at high volume !

thanks for that sarah it explains the lack of support.
if the bill said that top quality doctors and nurses would spread their skills into evenings and weekends then it might strike a chord with the public.
have read kafka and can see the similarity.
As Ive said before you can blame the GP contract and the e-rostering system for that Howard !

Your #58 Reg, #54 a subtle reference to a joke Roger posted some years ago. #57, no it doesn't make me feel superior because I don't understand the NHS labyrinth either. All I know is that with a few exceptions it is a can of worms which does not put the patient first above all else.

#63 made me smile! So true as to be actually painful!

From Tony's link.................."The BBC accompanied her when she was helping Czech national Otto Rybar, who has lived in Leeds for seven years, during a retinal scan at Leeds General Infirmary".......
Why does Otto need an interpreter if he has lived in Leeds for that long he should be fairly fluent in English by now.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

A good point well made.........

this issue arose on another thread where it was said that a local doctor's surgery had an interpreter there on an apparently permanent basis.

I believe that in Spain you have to pay for your own interpreter.
re 66 , Peter if you have a spare millenium and the odd brain cell or two to spare I could try and explain the basics ...........................

While Cameron is trying desperately to support Lansley his Deputy Prime Minister is breaking ranks on the
Health Bill.
Lib/Dem Simon Hughes tells Andrew Marr and countless millions Lansley has to go.
Senior Tories are rapidly drafted in to TV Shows to shore up the Health Secretary`s position.
Cameron is deeply frustrated with the divison in his party and cabinet and at a recent meeting in No.10 he
thumped the table saying``We've not shed blood on these proposals not to go through with them``
There is talk that like Coulson who he supported beyond rationale.....he is supporting Lansley ( who was his
boss several years ago ) and a friend in the same way...............
The wheels are going to come off..........something..........
