Western Heights Preservation Society will be working this month with the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership on Sunday 17th February on the area around the North Entrance. Plan is to cut back a lot the growth that is taking over and have a skip to remove rubbish that has been dumped onto the moat and the surrounding area. Meet at 10:30 at the cut off car-park off North Military Road. Anyone is welcome to come and lend a hand including Alex (I can't be there myself sadly) !!
Talks are still going on with the Probabion Service who will hopefully be able to do some work around the Grand Shaft Barracks site if it all comes together.
Hopefully we will have some news soon on a fund raising music event at the Town Hall in a May to help raise funds for WHPS. Hopefully tickets will be on sale in the next month
The Grand Shaft will be opening for the first time of the season on 17th March and will be open on the 3rd Sunday of the month 11:00 until 16:00, as well as the open weekends and Heritage Open Days, through until November
Plans are also underway on preparations for the annual summer open weekend on 15/16 June. Again it will be a multi-era event with various re-enactment groups. Local groups will also be in attendance so we are open to suggestions if anyone would like to attend
We are also busy with having displays and stalls at local events, such as the Holiday and Leisure Show, Tourism Fair and Dover Film Festival
Finally to show how much work there is going on, we are currently working on the 2014 event with the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of WW1 and the 100th anniversary of the last installation of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports at the Drop Redoubt.
Busy, busy, busy !!!!

Good Luck with all that Paul - surprised there haven't been more comments.
I'm sure that next year's Centenary event will be something very special.

If only people that go to the Heights do that little bit to help - which reminds me I have to report a couple of lots of fly-tipping that I noticed yesterday on the Heights that people just walk past....

the weather forecast for tomorrow is dry and not too cold, perfect for a work day. you don't necessarily have to be there at the start time - just turn up for an hour or so when convenient.

a total of 32 volunteers from two organisations turned out yesterday for the scrub clearing, the area now opened up and looking much better. sadly 2 discarded syringes were amongst the rubbish.
thanks to paul sampson again for sending in these pictures.
