I suggest you contact Paul Watkins, I am sure he will be pleased to take you through the process that they have had to follow as he has responsibility for regeneration as well as being council Leader.

I'm with vic, I'm looking at the rear of Castle Street now, empty space, fences, Burlington House, heaven knows how much money spent - on what and why?
It seems that Lidl, and probably others, have run rings around DDC and still we have no progress with the mythical DTIZ

It is now due to start in 2050 David, I really don't know why people are so impatient, it is after all just a question of waiting and waiting and waiting and.......

Peter I'm always interested in your reaction to some less informed posters because I know you know what you're talking about. However there are those who will disagree with anything PaulW says just because of who he is and what party he represents (although this subject is nothing to do with politics). Rome wasn't built in a day and nor will the new Dover be but I am confident that it will happen. Keep up your good work Peter.

I am happy with Mr Watkins but not all the team behind him, planning dept being the main one ,when I was in Hos/in the next bed to me before they moved me to a side ward was a Mr John Day who was a officer up at the D,D,C ,he was also not happy with all the depts up at the council office, saying they do not work as one but he also highlighted the planning dept,so it is not just me saying it.

That post has possibly made life at work very difficult for the poor man.

The answer to your enquiry David L is to submit a Freedom of Information request - that way you can find out exactly how much officer time and council money has been spent

JACQUI;
Just because some posters may not share your/peters view point in no way means they are less informed.
Usually it means they know a lot.
But i'm sure you can share true Dovorians frustration

And what objective does that achieve Ross, other than spend public money & take council staff away from day to day work on the scheme?
This is work in progress & I answered David's original question.
There are no secrets other than commercially sensitive info. that has the potential to ramp up prices or forestall negotiations.
In effect you won't get the answers until the scheme is ready to be unveiled, which hopefully won't be that long.
Forum members, Sue, Nigel & Roger plus Gordon C. are members of the group currently receiving reports on the Developing[near developed scheme]. If agreed & proper financial terms can be put to bed , a planning application will follow.
It also needs to be recognised the retail viability of the town centre Dover economy does not have a good track record & demonstrates market failure which is the reason for the SEEDA grant.
We could repeat what has been repeatedly debated here & accept the usual insults levelled to no avail, but it won't move any quicker.
Even when the scheme is launched, developer terms agreed & a planning permission granted the issue of site acquisition has to be dealt with. The strategic block which includes Burlington House still has to be acquired.
I have given you the latest details & won't comment further.

Keith nobody is more frustrated than me. This is the 5th summer in succession that the developers have promised to get our rear garden sorted out and we are still waiting.
Thank you Paul for your comments.

surprised this issue has raised such hackles.
it seemed clear early on the free dosh from seeda bought up the parcel of land in order for the d.t.i.z. to go forward.
paul mentions the track record of the town centre, funnily enough we have more shop take up than in my memory and a lot more than other towns.
we should be happy with that side of things.
talking to towns people on a daily basis, the big issue is over flower troughs, yes i know it is my personal crusade.

Paul - I was not suggesting for one moment that it was cost or impact free, but David does not seem prepared or willing to accept your answer and continues to repeat the question re time and cost. One way to get that information is the way I suggested.
I personally have no issue with the use of redevelopment grants etc. as it removes much of the financial burden from local tax payers and also recognises as you put it "market failure".
So we are still potentially over a barrel then if that strategic block, which contains the 2 main eyesores and the frontage onto Townwall St is still to be acquired ....

Correct Ross.
That's why you need a whole site scheme with a planning permission to deliver the financial critical mass via cross subsidy.

Unlike the previous scheme, perhaps the current yet-to-be-unveiled scheme will be capable of piecemeal delivery? At least then we can see building starting elsewhere on the site before The BH complex starts to come down.
