David, Lidl demolished the building not DDC.
The cost of the site acquisition will be revealed once the sale has been completed- contracts exchanged completion near is my understanding.
Not DDC money which has been stated.
A market evaluation had to be agreed with SEEDA before money was released and was a SEEDA executive decision which had to meet government rules for spend under current SEEDA wind down [bye bye] requirements.

i predict the amusement arcade will be the last to come down, some people always hold out for the best possible price even though inflation may outstrip any price rise.

Very interesting Paul - thanks for the link.
I'd never heard of the Shakespeare Hotel till now; it certainly looks a grand building, but so do most of the others - of the day.
I understand that work is in progress on that corner, but don't know what it is.
Dover was quite grand years ago wasn't it ?

Great idea Paul, but obviously this would create more problems blending it in with the 2052 DTIZ development, thus putting it back another 75 years. But this may be a good move as this is the proposed start date for designs for the new crypt development to be put forward so it looks like 2077 Folks, so the foundation stone 'may' be laid around 3000

This seems quite relevent to a lot of places in Dover - if only it was seen as an investable place....

Looking at that Paul, I would agree - looking at old photos of Dover - Shakespeare Hotel for example, I'd agree again.
With all Dover has going for it, it seems a natural place to invest in; how many places around the country have 15 million people to appeal to ? And how many do we manage to get to stay here ?

Thanks for your replies Paul, I am not attacking anybody personally but I'm sure I'm not the only Dovorian becoming cynical at the progress, or lack of iT, re the DTIZ.

Still no progress, I'll post every 4 weeks or so.
Apologies if I sound like a bore but to me this is a perfect example of wasting taxpayers money.

What progress are you looking for Dave ?
I can confirm that things are making serious progress, but at a delicate, negotiating stage and this is not an excuse for not saying anything - trust me.

Progress there is David.
The new plans/proposals will come to the Cabinet of DDC July 4th.
DDC now own the LIDL site. All processes completed.
Price of site around £800k + paid for by SEEDA grant & independently valued.
Roger & Sue have seen the plans & will no doubt comment on their attractiveness in general terms.

I note, Paul, that planning application DOV/11/00145 regarding our neighbouring 'village hall' should have gone to planning committee last Thursday but is still marked as undecided on the DDC website.

Ok, Watty.. but when exactly do us other stake holders get to see these plans?... there must be a time scale..
( I am almost pleading for one!)
quite difficult to do a five year business plan when i cant see the external factors such as DTIZ plans.. and i can imagine David is in the same situation

All the retailing and hospitality businesses in Castle St are in the same boat and have been for many years.

annoying isnt it?! LOL!
Surely there is a 5 year plan... that would help, we dont have to pin them to it, but if we can plan, then we are all going to be stronger.
Look at whats happening with major brands, if we cant plan..... then what hope have we got!
