When the poll tax came in our rates, which had previously been £1300+ pa, dropped to a community charge of £320. That was on a house in Canterbury, currently in council tax band G.

I think I would like you to qualify why you think they are very high for the level of services provided - you've been a cabinet member, you know the kind of costs involved and what services have to be provided, as well as salaries and pensions etc.

And remember DDC only gets a small percentage and is only responsible for providing certain services.

If you tell your District Councillors what your grievances are, I'm sure they will follow them up.

Never mind Roger, we don't want to let them turn it into an 'us and them' forum.

Keith, you put: - "street light eaves road not worked since iv lived here(1999)"
As soon as you advised me of the street-lighting I got on to Kent-Highways and it was fixed.
"grass cuttings cut over debris rather than removing it then grass cuttings not collected just left so all goes into the homes"
Same with the grass-cutting - and they apologised for not giving a good job.
"lack of police"
I think that (almost) every one would agree they would like to see more Police on the streets, but it is not done through DDC.
"no vision by council"
Absolutely disagree with you on this, not being a Councillor anymore you have no idea of the visions for the future of the District
"invisible cllrs"
What do you mean by this ?
"overpaid top tier staff"
All the senior officers are paid the going rate - within a given range.

Roger
those were just a couple of examples,
the street light you refer to was fixed, theres another been off all that time.
the grass cuttings continue not to be collected so never resolved
i do keep up to speed with the council and its an insult to say i have no idea what goes on
cllrs in general(are usually invisable) not just indicated at you roger this is cross party
top tier staff over paid not the going rate
and even if it is accepted to be the going rate its because all the councils(with our money)pay over inflated wages
so no one dare drop them down its a big roundabout we are on

Looks like we've diverted from the original point, I found this which is interesting
http://www.dover-kent.co.uk/places/dtiz.htm
It seems the ineptitude goes back to 2004, in which time DDC has spent enormous sums of money with no return. I'll continue to bring this to the top to highlight how they're wasting our money through incompetence.
Roger accuses me of negativity, theres not a negative bone in me, I'm just cynical, with good reason, about the ability of DDC to deliver its promises.
Roger, you lot will be judged on what you do, not what you say you're going to do.

Still no-one has told us what they expect DDC to do to get something to happen on the DTIZ site - as I have said they can't force anyone to invest money there. They can only facilitate by getting hold of the land and make it as easy as possible for something to take place once someone decides they want to spend some money there. They council don't have money to develop the area themselves and I wouldn't expect them too.
Should they just wait until someone wants to buy it all up and demolish Burlington House etc and not try any more ??
Been nice knowing you :)

Ah no suggestions then !!
How about putting council tax into context - a band C property:
£931.36 KCC
£146.16 DDC
£123.27 Kent Police
£60.40 Kent Fire
Total £1261.19
To put it simply £2.81 a week to have your bins collected and everything else is a bonus - building control, planning, musuems, tourism, environmental health, parks, recycling, flytipping, cemeteries, etc, etc, etc
Probably for the average person to drive up to Whitfield to take their rubbish or even just to call out a taxi once will cost that !!!!
Perhaps people should be knocking KCC rather a lot more ?
