a couple of points here.
the two most successful events we have other than the regatta are the western heights open weekends and the hellfire corner/armed forces weekend. the common denominator is the promotion of each events, fair enough both are now well established but it still needs posters in windows and word of mouth. the crowds we have had on both days are clear evidence of that.
the castle had a similar event a few weeks back that cost £.16. 50 per day admission and had no military vehicles, entertainment o.k. but not up to last weekends standards. fair enough they had to spread things over a wider area but there was less to see overall. they had the naafi canteen so equal there.
sorry one other point, who is that attractive lady standing next to barry in the last set of photos?

That is Barry's girlfriend Howard, a very lovely lady, she works in the legal profession at Mowll and Mowll

Well done with the pictures Ted. Great to see... but so as not to finish on that geezer laid out here is a very nice pic of Ted with his troop and in uniform this time. About to march at the opening ceremony. Ted on the left of course and looking good.

i did enjoy resurrecting this thread, went through all the photos of the acts, exhibitors and seeing so many forum members. we have some great weekends in dover from april to september, in my view this one is the very best of them.

I must take issue with the comment about "the most successful" events ( as I am sure Mike McFarnell would do re the tattoo ).
You are completely missing the excellent events held at the transport museum at Whitfield. This weekend sees the 1940s event, bigger and better than ever. Later in the year we have our very popular joint events with the East Kent Railway. There is a small admission charge (but we don't have drunks sleeping on the grass).
