Unauthorised lorry park in Coombe Valley Road closes

Wednesday, 10 January 2018
Following enforcement action by Dover District Council, the use of land as an unauthorised lorry park in Coombe Valley Road, Dover, has ceased. This follows an appeal decision by the Planning Inspector in June 2017 upholding an enforcement notice issued by DDC. The Inspector extended the period for compliance from 3 to 6 months, requiring the unauthorised use to stop in December 2017.

The Inspector decided that the Council was right to enforce, as the unauthorised use was causing harm to the living conditions of nearby residents. In addition, the Inspector considered that traffic generation would probably increase the likelihood of congestion at the railway bridge.

Cllr Nicholas Kenton, DDC Cabinet Member for Environment said: "We’re pleased that the Planning Inspector agreed with us that this was not a suitable location for a lorry park. Where circumstances justify it, we will take appropriate enforcement action when land is being used in contravention of planning regulations."
