Pilot project for public transport scheme launches in Dover District

Wednesday, 1 August 2018
A pilot project run by Thanet Community Transport Association is being tried and tested in the Dover District to offer a flexible public transport alternative in the area.

Thanet Community Transport Association (TCTA) has a large fleet of purpose designed minibuses, and is able to pick up and drop off people from their homes in Dover District to their destination locally from £3.50 per person for each single journey.

An annual membership of £20 for individuals or £35 for a group is required first, but TCTA vehicles, which are able to accommodate wheelchair users, can collect you from your door and pick you up again from your destination at agreed times.

The pilot scheme has been launched in Dover District, following work with Dover District Council to help the Association access funding from the Lloyds Bank Social Entrepreneurs Programme, and to promote the service locally.

Cllr Nigel Collor, DDC Cabinet Member for Access, said: "We were very pleased to be able to help TCTA access funding to expand services into the district, and in particular to provide a new offer for those who rely on public transport in rural areas."

Jayne Cribben, TCTA Manager, said: "We are fully committed to developing community transport services, and we are delighted with the support we’ve been given to help us expand our services into Dover District."

The dial-a-ride service can be accessed by calling 01843 602030. Journeys are subject to agreement with TCTA on booking. For more information on TCTA visit www.transportinthanet.co.uk.
