Building for the future with community led housing and self-build

Monday, 19 March 2018
As part of their work to develop housing options for the future, Dover District Council is looking for people or groups that want to find out more about community led housing or self-build projects.

Dover District Council is one of 150 councils that have been awarded funding via the Government's Community Housing Fund to help put communities at the heart of delivering new homes.

Community led housing is a way in which communities can play an active role in solving the housing needs in their local area. It can take many forms to suit the requirements of a range of different circumstances. There is no one model of community led housing, but there could be a range of solutions to meet local needs. Forms of community housing could include community land trusts, housing cooperatives, self-build, cohousing, and other solutions.

Cllr Keith Morris, Leader of Dover District Council said: "We’re keen to ensure any communities who are interested in delivering homes in their area have the knowledge they require to make this a reality, and we would ask anyone who’s interested to come forward to find out more."
