Police give out home security advice following burglaries in Dover

Friday, 22 September 2017
Officers are warning residents to make sure their homes are secure after three burglaries were reported in Dover.

The first is reported to have taken place overnight on Sunday (17 September 2017) in Buckland Avenue, the second one was also reported overnight on the same day in Ashen Tree Lane and the third was reported overnight in Lower Road, River, on Wednesday 20 September.

Electrical items were reported stolen following all three incidents.

Inspector Stuart Norris from the Dover Community Safety Unit said: "At the moment we are not necessarily linking these burglaries but we would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area during those times.

"We do believe that in both cases thieves have accessed the properties via open windows and would take this opportunity to urge people to keep their homes as secure as possible. Always check doors and windows are locked, even in hot weather, and that security alarms and lights are in place wherever possible.

"Since the reports came in local officers have been visiting residents in the area to provide reassurance and offer crime prevention advice such as keeping doors and windows closed when away from the property or overnight, using timers for lights, regularly talking to neighbours and keeping a look out for anything suspicious.

"As well as remembering to close windows and keep doors locked, property can be marked, which makes thieves less likely to take the items they know can be traced and difficult to sell on. Keeping a record of valuable items and taking photographs of them can also assist in recovering property should it get stolen."

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area is urged to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference 18-0178. Alternatively you can contact Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
