New apprentices welcomed at Dover District Council

Thursday, 11 May 2017
Dover District Council has welcomed three new apprentices to the Council.

Joe Couchman, 18, Lee Butler, 20, and Liam Grant, 19, have started as apprentices at the DDC offices in Whitfield. They are completing courses through East Kent College. Joe and Lee are working with the DDC Assets and Building Control team, and Liam is working with the DDC Digital Services team.

As well as these three new starters, Dover District Council already has an apprentice working in Finance, an apprentice position in Development Management, and two apprentices working in the Community Services team.

Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study. As an apprentice, young people work alongside experienced staff, gain job-specific skills, earn a wage and get holiday pay, and study towards a related qualification.

Nadeem Aziz, Chief Executive of Dover District Council said: "We are delighted to welcome Joe, Lee and Liam. Apprenticeships provide an excellent opportunity for young people to learn, and for employers to benefit from the fantastic range of talents young people bring with them. We continue to work to provide opportunities for our youth for the future, and are very pleased to be working with East Kent College to support these apprenticeships."
