James Dickson, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on Wednesday 26 July 2017 to 20 years in prison. He must also serve an additional five years on licence.

In July 2015 police were called after a girl told her mother that she had been sexually assaulted by Dickson in a caravan in Dover.

Following an investigation, a second victim came to light, and it was discovered that Dickson’s offending stretched over a decade.

When Dickson, formally of Canterbury, was arrested, his mobile phone was seized by officers and it was found he had used it to search for sexual images of children.

James Dickson was charged with a number of offences in connection with the two victims, but denied them all.

At court following a trial lasting nine days, Dickson was found guilty of all 11 counts, including rape, sexual assault, and possessing child abuse images.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Spencer Albone said: "Dickson carried out horrible crimes on children and tried to deny it all.

"However he was brought before the court where the jury saw through his lies and he was exposed as the monster he really is.

"The victims are thanked for their courage in supporting this case.

"At Kent Police our officers are trained to investigate abuse reported by victims of all ages, regardless of whether the abuse is more recent or happened in a different decade.

"We hope this result brings reassurance to anyone who wishes to report a similar crime, or who has concerns about a child being abused, that such reports can be made in confidence and will be fully investigated."
