Addressing community support - Dementia Friends training session dates announced

Thursday, 9 March 2017
Dover District Council has joined with the Kent Dementia Action Alliance to help make the district more dementia friendly - and local businesses and community organisations are being invited to get involved by coming along to specially organised ‘Dementia Friends’ training sessions.

Training sessions are being held in the Brave Room at the DDC offices in Whitfield on Monday 20 March from 1pm-2pm, 2pm-3pm, 4pm-5pm and 5pm-6pm. There will also be a training session at Deal Town Hall on Wednesday 29 March from 6.30pm-7.15pm.

DDC's Community Services team is working to create a Later Life Address Book to help combat issues faced by people living with dementia. This will be a vintage-style address book, designed to be easy to read, containing details of local businesses and services that have come forward as Dementia Friends, and attended Dementia Friends training sessions.

This local initiative is being run by DDC working with Dementia Friends, part of the Alzheimer’s Society. Local businesses and services can play an integral role in helping vulnerable people feel valued and included in the community.

If you are interested in becoming a Dementia Friend, and attending one of the local sessions, email community@dover.gov.uk.
