Self Build Register

Monday, 11 April 2016
Dover District Council is inviting people to sign up to a new Self Build Register, to find out how much interest there is from those who want to build their own homes or have their own homes built in the district.

The register is a statutory requirement and will help the Council to find out more about individuals and groups of individuals who are interested in self build, including where people would like their plot to be, and the type of housing they would like to build.

In the future, the register may be used to try to match those with an interest in starting a self build project with landowners who might have suitable plots of land available for housing. Registration does not however guarantee that a suitable plot will be found or become available.

Any proposal for self build housing will need a formal planning application and will be subject to all relevant policies as set out in the Development Plan.

Adrian Fox, DDC Policy and Projects Manager, said: "We continue to work hard to help develop a range of housing solutions for the future of the district, and one such way is self build. By signing up for the register, people can help us find out more about the demand for self build plots."
