School visits help raise awareness of environment for the future

Tuesday, 9 February 2016
Throughout January, Dover District Council has been leading a series of assemblies with local primary schools to talk to pupils about the importance of putting litter in the bin, picking up after pets, and keeping our district clean, tidy and safe for the future.

The environmental crime team visited nine schools across the district in January to talk about a range of issues, including:

  • The impact litter has on our environment
  • How long it takes for litter to biodegrade
  • The health implications of dog fouling
  • The penalties for dropping litter and failing to clean up after your dog
  • What we should all do with our litter - and the need to 'bin it'
  • The importance of dog owners always picking up after their pets

Cllr Trevor Bartlett, DDC Cabinet Member for Property Management and Public Protection said: "We are delighted at the success of these assemblies. DDC continues to work hard to raise awareness of the impact of littering and dog fouling, including arranging this series of educational visits. This key work is playing an important role in raising awareness of the environment for our future."
