Providing safety and reassurance - CCTV system gains Certificate Of Compliance

Tuesday, 16 August 2016
Dover District Council is welcoming news that its CCTV system has been successful in meeting a national code of practice, set up to ensure people can have confidence that surveillance cameras are used to protect and support them.

DDC has been awarded a Certificate of Compliance with the Home Office’s Surveillance Camera Code of Practice. The certificate is awarded to organisations that demonstrate they comply with the code and meet its 12 guiding principles.

The initial certificate is awarded for one year. DDC will now undergo a full audit to receive full certification for five years. The award means that DDC can display the ‘Surveillance Camera Code Compliant’ mark.

Cllr Keith Morris, DDC Cabinet Member for Community Safety said: "This mark will reassure those who live in, work in, and visit Dover District that DDC complies with the code, and uses its surveillance camera systems and information gathered from them in the appropriate manner."

Tony Porter, Surveillance Camera Commissioner, said: "Certification enables organisations to demonstrate to communities that they use their CCTV systems transparently, effectively and proportionately. It shows they comply with the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice and indicates they follow best practice."
