New homes reach 15 year high in Dover District

Wednesday, 23 November 2016
The Dover District saw a 15 year high in net additions to dwelling stock in 2015-16 with 726 new homes. This included 648 new build homes as part of Dover District Council's strategy to improve the range and quality of housing, with work underway on many of the sites identified for the district's strategic housing allocations.

The Dover District saw the fourth highest number of new homes built in Kent in 2015-16, after Dartford, Tonbridge & Malling, and Ashford. Combined with net conversions and changes of use to residential, the total number of new dwellings in the district was 726 in 2015-16. There were 185 new affordable homes, up from 110 in 2014-15.

Further growth is expected in the coming years with housing developments planned for Deal and Walmer, at the Discovery Park site in Sandwich, and at the Waterfront and former Connaught Barracks sites in Dover. Work is also underway on the first phase of the Richmond Park development at Whitfield, including a new access road on the A256.

Mike Davis, Director of Finance, Housing and Community Services at Dover District Council, said: "These latest figures underline our commitment to improve the range and quality of housing across the Dover District. Developers are seeing increased sales as more and more people discover the district's unique coastal lifestyle combined with affordability and excellent transport connections, including the high speed rail link to London."
