Dover District Council has welcomed news that local buildings have been recognised in awards celebrating excellence in construction in the South East - with seven buildings in the finals, and the Castle Street Development of eight new build council flats in Dover named a winner.

The Castle Street Development won the Best Small New Housing Development category. The building was also a finalist in the Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development category. The project was led by Dover District Council’s Corporate Property Services Team with Jenner (Contractors) Ltd the main building contractor. The project will now go through to the national finals in November.

Six other buildings in Dover District went through to the awards as finalists: Deal Football Ground (Best Public Service Building), Victoria House in Dover (Best Change of Use of an Existing Building or Conversion), Caesar Court in Deal (Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development), the Quarterdeck in Deal (Best New Housing Development), Hazelbank in Sandwich (Best Extension or Alteration to an Existing Home) and the site next to 3 Warwick Road, Walmer (Best Individual New Home). The buildings were nominated by DDC Building Control.

Martin Leggatt, DDC Head of Assets and Building Control said: "We are delighted that these great examples of the excellent construction work in the district have been recognised. We were pleased to nominate these buildings, and we continue to work with contractors to ensure that excellent standards are maintained across the area."

The Castle Street Development has also been shortlisted as a finalist in the Structural Timber Awards in the Social Housing category.
