New faces at Council as it meets for first time since election

Dover District Council met on Wednesday (20 May 2015) for its first meeting since the elections on 7 May. The outgoing Chairman Sue Nicholas welcomed members to the Annual Meeting, with a third of the chamber being new Councillors, including one of DDC's youngest ever Councillors, Cllr Thomas Johnstone.

The Council elected Cllr Sue Chandler as its new Chairman and Cllr David Hannent as the Vice Chairman for 2015/16. Cllr Paul Watkins was elected as Leader of the Council for the next four years. There are also new faces in the Cabinet and Shadow Cabinet, which were also announced at the meeting.

The Council paid tribute to the retiring Chairman, Sue Nicholas, who had been Chairman for the last four years.

Cllr Sue Chandler, Chairman of Dover District Council said: "Dover District Council has an ambitious vision, which is now being realised in so many ways. With the Local Development Framework in place, we look forward to the delivery of major regeneration projects to support the growth agenda across the district. We look forward to everyone who lives and works in our district continuing to be part of this success, as we continue to develop strong communities with a sense of place and identity for the future."
