Community groups in Dover benefit from Kent Police property fund

Four charities across Dover have benefited from a donation from the Kent Police property fund.

The property fund comes from the sale at auction of items that have been seized during police operations and unclaimed property.

Twice a year the money raised is distributed to local groups that provide a service to communities in Kent.

The latest charities in Dover to benefit are:

SECamb Charitable Trust - the money will help buy essential equipment for the Dover Community First Responders group. The group, made up of volunteers, responds to emergency situations such as people suffering from heart attack, strokes and falls.

Stonham Housing - the money will be used for the Dover Young Persons Project in Folkestone Road, a scheme that supports young vulnerable adults who are either homeless or at risk of being homeless. The money will go towards helping to provide valuable skills for the young adults, such as cookery lessons.

The Phoenix Youth Project - based in Jubilee Road, Sandwich, the project is run by volunteers and is open two nights a week. Its aim is to support young people, offering advice on topics from substance abuse to mental health issues. The money will be put towards a cycle marking and safety event for teenagers.

Dover Partnership Against Crime - DPAC is a group responsible for managing the shop watch radio systems in Dover, Deal and Sandwich. The charity promotes business crime prevention initiatives to further reduce local crime. The money will be spent on replacing and upgrading the radios used in this scheme.

District Commander for Dover, Chief Inspector Steve Barlow said: "It pleases me to be able to contribute to local charities that do so much to provide for some of the most vulnerable in our communities. There are many that willingly give their time and effort in helping others."
