New housing to be built within St James's development in Dover

Wednesday, 11 June 2014
Eight new homes are set to be built for Dover District Council within the multi million pound St James's development in Dover Town Centre, following a decision by DDC's Cabinet to move forward with plans to build the new affordable housing.

Cabinet has agreed in principle to the development of eight affordable flats on land at 12-14 Castle Street. The Council will now move on to the detailed design stage, before seeking tenders for the construction of the project.

Planning consent for the eight residential units was obtained by Bond City on 8 January 2014 as part of the comprehensive St James's development. The land to be used is the former MFI site. The site was purchased by the Council in 2011, with funding provided by SEEDA and the Housing and Communities Agency.

Cllr Sue Chandler, DDC Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "This is a key site in Dover, and we are very pleased to be moving forward with plans for new affordable housing. We will be building these new flats to a high specification, and they will mark one of the first parts of the St James's site to be constructed."
