Cabinet agrees to freeze parking charges

Monday, 6 January 2014
Dover District Council's Cabinet has agreed a recommendation to freeze parking charges across the district for the next financial year. The decision will cap charges at existing levels for the year ahead for all the Council's on and off-street parking.

Cllr Nigel Collor, Portfolio Holder for Access and Property Management, said: "We are pleased to confirm Cabinet has agreed to freeze parking charges in the district for 2014/15. This will be the second year that on and off-street charges have been frozen. I also intend to bring the same report again next year for a further freeze for 2015/16.

"We want to encourage people to shop locally and support traders in our town centres. We continue to not charge on Sundays in the majority of our car parks, and will keep the charging period from 9am to 6pm. We maintain the 'Ringo' parking scheme, allowing people to pay from their mobiles. We also have a number of free car parks, and a low cost car park in each of our three towns. Parking charges in Dover District remain amongst the lowest in East Kent."
