Active Dover sports grants

Monday, 24 February 2014
Sports clubs and individuals across Dover District have benefited from funding to increase participation and excellence in sport and promote active recreation in the area. Dover District Council and Dover Town Council have funded Active Dover grants, and grants totalling £1,650 have been allocated to clubs and athletes in the latest round.

DDC's Communication and Engagement Team administered the Active Dover Grant Fund, and grants of up to £500 for clubs and £300 for individual athletes were awarded to clubs and individuals in Dover District. Over the last financial year, more than £5,000 has been allocated in Active Dover grants.

Grants were primarily given to clubs looking to develop and increase participation in sport, or to individuals competing at a county level or higher. Grants ranged from help for an individual to compete in skiing at an international level across Europe, to a contribution to help members of a local football club attend a football coaching course.

Cllr Sue Chandler, DDC Cabinet Member for community said: "We are very pleased to have worked with Dover Town Council to provide Active Dover grants, and to support the commitment shown by the many talented athletes and clubs in our communities."

Cllr Viv Revell, Chairman of the Civic and Special Projects Committee at Dover Town Council said: "We are delighted to provide grant funding of £1,200 to help active Dovorians get more from their sport and recreation."
