14 year sentence for Dover man found guilty of child sex offences
Martin Adams, 55 years old and of Coombe Valley Road in Dover was arrested in September 2013 after a six year-old girl reported that Adams had sexually abused her.

Adams denied the allegations but was charged with two counts of rape and remanded in custody following a hearing at Canterbury Magistrates' Court on 19 September.

Following a trial at Canterbury Crown Court, Adams was found guilty by a jury on Tuesday (27 May 2014) of two counts of rape, two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and one count of causing a child to watch a sex act.

Yesterday (28 May) he was sentenced at the same court to 14 years in prison. A sexual offences prevention order was granted and Adams was also banned from working with children. He must also register as a sex offender.

Detective Constable Emily Hooper from the Kent Police public protection unit said: "A common factor in cases like this is that the victim often asks if it is their fault the abuse took place. It is not. It is the fault of the offender, who takes advantage of a child too young to understand the gravity of what is happening, and how very wrong it is. Adams completely denied all the allegations that were made but he has been found guilty and now faces a long time in prison. When sexual offences are reported to police they are investigated thoroughly and sensitively and victims and their families should have confidence that we will do everything in our power to put suspects before the courts."
