The standard was extremely high and I was extremely impressed, as I am every year, by the dedication of the students, the teachers and of course the business representatives, including those from the Port, who engage in this worthwhile process with such enthusiasm and verve."

Representing one of the six competing Dover district school companies, SnackBack won the Dover Area Final with its innovative plastic lunch box that can be taken apart and flat packed. The company also won the award for best company report.

Mr Waggott added: "Such innovation shows just how much enterprising ability there is in our young people and in our community. Nurturing these skills and ideas will benefit not only them in their future careers but will also contribute to the aspirations and economic regeneration of Dover in the years to come."

'Doka' from Sir Roger Manwood's School won the award for best trade stand and 'Ship Shape' from Dover Grammar School for Girls won the award for best presentation in a hotly contested final that has become a showcase for the best of young local business talent over the past few years.

Mr Waggott concluded: "As the continuing major sponsor of Young Enterprise in Dover District, we wholeheartedly believe in helping to develop the talents and skills of local young people. The achievements I have witnessed this year and in previous years are testament to the success of the Young Enterprise Scheme and are an affirmation of why the Port of Dover is still delighted to be involved in something that is positively creating a culture of enterprise in the local community, which we absolutely endorse."
