Second berthing trial for animal export vessel 'mv Joline'

Monday, 15 April 2013
Following modifications by her owners, the mv Joline is due to arrive at Dover later this week to undertake a second berthing trial. The provisional date for the trial, subject to weather and berth availability, is Wednesday 17 April.

The purpose of the trial remains to establish the feasibility of the vessel utilising the Port's large vehicle ferry berths in the Eastern Docks. The result of the previous trial was inconclusive but important information was obtained as to the precise adjustments that were needed in order for the ship to moor safely and securely in the berth and connect properly with the loading bridge.

As before, the ship will be subject to stringent operational rules. A full evaluation of the berthing trial will be carried out before any final decision is made as to the suitability of the vessel to operate from the Port of Dover following her latest modifications.
