Reminder to guard valuables after bag stolen as victim swam in sea

Monday, 22 July 2013
Police are reminding people not to leave valuables unattended on the beach which could be a target area for thieves during the hot weather.

A bag containing money and a phone was stolen from a beach near East Cliff, Folkestone on Sunday 21 July, after the victim went swimming in the sea.

Whilst beaches in Kent are usually safe places to visit it is important that visitors do not make themselves easy targets.

Kent Police would advise people to carry mobile phones and other valuables with them at all times and always keep belongings in view and within reaching distance.

Parents who may appear distracted as they play with their children are also urged to be vigilant.

The theft occurred after 4.30pm. If you saw anyone acting suspiciously who was handing a black Guess bag with gold lettering contact DC Mandy Poulter on 07528 989057, quoting reference ZY/020598/13.
