Saturday, 23 March 2013
On Thursday (21 March 2013), Jack Dromey MP, Labour's Shadow Housing Minister visited Dover and Deal as part of the Your Britain project. He met with Clair Hawkins, Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for Dover and Deal, local party members and residents at Deal Town Hall to discuss housing, planning and quality of life concerns that affect people in the local area.

A wide range of topics were covered including the need for more social and council housing, planning decisions at Sholden and Whitfield, the need to regulate the private rented sector, more housing suited to older people and people with disabilities, help to get on the property ladder, eco and self-build homes, and house-building as a means to kick-start the economy.

Clair Hawkins, Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for Dover and Deal said: "It was fantastic to welcome Jack Dromey to Dover and Deal to discuss the housing needs of people in our area and the policies needed to meet them. Affordable and decent housing for all must be central to Labour's One Nation vision to kick-start the economy, give people a better quality of life and create thriving communities. Whether we rent, own or are without a home, housing is central to our lives and I'm glad Labour is listening to people to make sure we get our policies and priorities right."

Jack Dromey MP, Labour Shadow Minister for Housing, said: "Housing must take political centre stage. It is at the heart of Labour's One Nation message as it is intrinsically linked to economic growth and rebuilding our future."

Jack tweeted after the event that "Dover & Deal Labour Party members, passionate about Housing, fizzed with ideas. A fantastic evening."
