Driver arrested after police officers injured

A 41-year-old Dover man is in custody after a car being followed by police officers was stopped in Folkestone yesterday (Tuesday, 5 March 2013).

Concern about the driver of a red Ford Ka in Folkestone Road, Dover was reported to Kent Police at 3.40pm. The car was spotted by an officer in Dover Hill, Folkestone and followed into the town where the car was stopped by officers in Park Farm Road at 3.50pm.

Three police officers suffered whiplash injuries and three police vehicles were damaged as the car was made to stop in Park Farm Road.

Two vehicles driven by members of the public were also damaged but their drivers were not injured.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit and assaulting police officers and is in custody at Folkestone Police Station.

Park Farm Road had to be closed for several hours for investigations to be carried out and for the vehicles to be removed.
