Dover District 'calorie map' helps residents walk their way to a more active lifestyle

Thursday, 25 July 2013
A new, pocket-size calorie map is helping residents take steps towards an active lifestyle with eight calorie burning walks across the Dover district. Produced by Dover District Council and the Kent Community Health NHS Trust, the map features eight walking routes in Dover, Deal, Sandwich, River and Whitfield that can burn 75-182 calories.

The guide features short walks of 1-2 miles that take 20-40 minutes to complete. The aim is to encourage people to take regular, moderate exercise.

Cllr Pat Heath, Portfolio Holder for Health and Well-being, said: "Walking is a great way to improve your health and see more of our district. A year on from the Olympics, we continue to look at ways to encourage people to be more active. Getting out for a walk is something that many of us could incorporate into our daily lives, and it's a great way to see our district."

The calorie maps, which are free, are available from the DDC Reception & Area Offices, Gateway, Dover Visitor Information Centre, Dover Town Council, Dover Leisure Centre, Crosslinks & Buckland Community Centre, as well as a number of locations in Deal, Sandwich and Walmer.
