Double the fun on Dover seafront

Wednesday, 13 March 2013
Dover Harbour Board have announced a brand new fun day, the Port of Dover Community Regatta which will incorporate the popular Dover District Community Safety Day. The event takes place on Saturday 27th July 2013 on Dover Seafront between 10am and 5pm.

A full programme of first-class fun will be on offer at the event facilitated by Dover Harbour Board with the support of Dover District Community Safety Partnership and Dover Sea Sports Centre. The Sea Sports Centre will be taking charge of the marine-based fun with the emphasis firmly on family participation!

On the water there will be paddlesports, sailing tasters, pedalos and more plus a new exciting tournament, the 'Dover Port Dash' sponsored by Dover Harbour Board that will see teams race across the harbour in 'Thames Cutters' pitting their wits against the waves and challenging their fitness in a bid to raise money for local charity Pegasus.

Bob Goldfield, Chief Executive, Port of Dover stated: "We're pleased to support a new marine event for Dover, making the most of our harbour for the enjoyment of the community and to continue supporting the Dover District Community Safety Day. With the involvement and enthusiasm of Dover Sea Sports Centre, we are creating an exciting partnership to provide a fantastic festival of family fun on land and sea at the Port of Dover - it should be a great start to the summer holidays."

The Port has also said it is particularly pleased to be sponsoring the Dover Port Dash in aid of Pegasus, a local charity that works with children who have a variety of severe and complex disabilities.

Mr Goldfield added: "Pegasus works to give such children opportunities to meet new people, make new friends and experience a wide variety of different activities in a safe environment. We are delighted to sponsor the Dover Port Dash for such a worthy beneficiary."

Sue Clarke, Chair of the Pegasus Playscheme said: "The Pegasus committee are delighted to hear that we are to be your chosen charity for the 'Dover Port Dash'. Such amazing news for us and we are really looking forward to the day. It is a wonderful opportunity for Dover to celebrate a local charity of some 27 years standing and you can rest assured we will be there to enjoy the event."

The Community Safety event will include a whole host of demonstrations and exciting displays throughout the day by the emergency services and community agencies. The free event will provide the chance for visitors to find out about the wide range of work undertaken to help keep Dover District a safe place to live, work and visit.

Nadeem Aziz, Chairman of the Dover District Community Safety Partnership and Chief Executive of Dover District Council said: "We are looking forward to another successful community safety day. A great day out for the family, it provides an opportunity to showcase to the community how the partnership works and what we are all doing to make our district an even safer place."
