Collective switching update

Tuesday, 21 May 2013
More than 1,300 households have signed up to take part in Dover District Council's first ever collective switching scheme, in a bid to lower their household bills.

With recent government figures saying that six in ten people are concerned about their energy bills, the collective switching scheme, Energy Deal, is a no-obligation, free way to see if you can reduce your energy bills.

Online registration is quick and easy at www.energydealswitch.com. Residents without internet access can join in by calling 01304 872428 and leaving their telephone number. They will then receive a call back from an officer who will go through their registration with them. Residents will need to have their annual energy statement to hand to complete registration.

The Energy Deal scheme culminates in an 'energy auction' and will see more than 14,000 households across the country join forces to harness their buying power and negotiate with energy suppliers for a better energy deal. The scheme has been developed jointly with Dartford, Tunbridge Wells and Gravesham councils.

The scheme is open for online registrations until midnight 3 June 2013. Residents without access to a computer who wish to register 'offline' via the Council callback process will need to leave their contact details before Thursday 30 May. The energy auction will take place on 4 June. In mid June, the winning deal will be announced to households who have signed up, and they will have until the end of the month to decide whether they want to switch as part of the energy collective.

Cllr Nicholas Kenton, DDC Cabinet Member for Environment said: "The response from local residents has already been very positive and we hope that many more households will take advantage of 'Energy Deal'. Registration closes on 3 June - don't miss the chance to see if you can save money on your energy bills, register now."
