Olympic Torch Evening Celebration - Rizzle Kicks accounced as part of stage show

Tuesday, 8 May 2012
As excitement continues to build around the Olympic Torch Relay, Dover District Council has announced that chart toppers Rizzle Kicks will be coming to Dover as part of the Olympic Torch Evening Celebration stage show.

The stage show is organised by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and the three presenting partners of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay - Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung - with support from Dover District Council and Arts Council England.

Rizzle Kicks will be part of a two-hour stage show line up on Dover Seafront on 18 July. The event includes:

  • 20 minutes of local entertainment, including the song 'Pass the Passion' written and sung by local school children
Lloyds TSB bringing 20 minutes of stunning acrobatic performances
  • Samsung staging 20 minutes of amazing dance performances
  • Coca-Cola showcasing 20 minutes of the hip hop duo Rizzle Kicks, best known for tracks Mama Do The Hump and the No.1 hit Heart Skips a Beat with Olly Murs, which earned a Brit Award nomination
  • The last torchbearer of the day will arrive on the stage and light a celebration cauldron.

During the stage show the Olympic Torch Relay will be working its way around Dover, before arriving on the stage. This is a fantastic opportunity for residents and visitors to line the streets and welcome the Olympic Flame to Dover.

To round off this unique event a spectacular firework finale, open to everyone, will then be held on the seafront to celebrate the Olympic Flame and the area.

Tickets to the stage show will be managed by Ticketmaster and will be free, although a small administration fee will be applicable. Tickets will be awarded by ballot and details will be announced on 17 May.

Cllr Sue Chandler, Dover District Council Cabinet Member for Community, Housing and Youth said: "This will be a great opportunity for people to enjoy a major event. Tickets will be available soon, and balloting is an excellent way of ensuring everyone has the opportunity to apply for tickets over a two-week period. There is as much chance of gaining a ticket if you apply at 9am on the first day of release as there is of applying at midnight on the last day of release. We will make sure the majority of tickets go to Dover District residents."

Tickets will be available through www.ticketmaster.com.
