Know Your Services 2012

Friday, 27 April 2012
Do you want to know more about disability services in the local area? Do you want to find out about what is available in the Gateway and your local community?

A Disability Awareness Event is being held at Dover Discovery Centre, in partnership with Dover Gateway, on Thursday 10 May between 10am and 2pm, to encourage people to meet local service providers and see what the Gateway can offer to you.

Organisations who will be on hand include the Health Trainers, Carers' Support, MCCH, the Disability Drop In Centre, the Volunteer Bureau, and Speak Up CIC. You can learn more about the services they provide, and can also give your thoughts on what services you would like to see in the Gateway by filling in a questionnaire.

Kent County Council and Dover District Council joined up to open the Gateway office in Dover, which provides increased services for residents, including a range of voluntary and community support services. Dover Gateway is situated in Castle Street, and has successfully engaged with local businesses, charities and voluntary organisations to ensure that services are relevant to residents' needs, and it is constantly evolving.

Matthew Munson, Front of House Coordinator for Dover Gateway, said: "The ethos of the Gateway is to be open and accessible for everyone, and we want people with disabilities, or those who support disabled people, to feel they can access services in exactly the same way. We're also looking for feedback from people to make sure we can deliver the best possible service to people with disabilities."

Dover Discovery Centre houses the Library, Dover Museum, a theatre and Adult Education together under one roof and so can offer a variety of services to the local community - and it is always adapting to remain fresh and relevant to the community.
