Border Force seize amphetamine at Dover Docks

Thursday, 30 August 2012
Border Force officers are investigating after approximately 10 kilos of amphetamine was seized at Dover's Eastern Docks.

The drugs, with an estimated street value of £400,000, were discovered on Tuesday 28 August when officers stopped a Polish-registered car after it had arrived in Dover on a ferry from Calais.

After questioning the driver the vehicle was searched and officers found the drugs hidden in the dashboard.

A 27-year-old man, Rafal Wylegala from Swidnica in Poland appeared at Canterbury Magistrates Court today (30 August 2012), charged with the attempted importation. He withheld his plea and was remanded in custody. He will next appear at Folkestone Magistrates Court on 5 September.

Carole Upshall from Border Force said: "Border Force officers are on constant alert to keep illegal drugs and other banned substances out of the UK.

"We are determined to prevent this terrible trade which can have such a destructive impact on the lives of so many."
