Be a marshal for Olympic Torch Relay through Dover District

Tuesday, 22 May 2012
Dover District Council is offering an exciting opportunity to help and be part of Olympic history as they prepare for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. DDC is looking for volunteers to marshal the route of the Olympic Torch as it passes through Dover on 18 July, and through Deal, Sholden and Sandwich on 19 July.

Marshals will work alongside trained stewards to line the route and ensure the torch passes through securely, ensure spectators are safe, and provide information and directions to spectators. A few marshals will also be needed to help in car parks and entrance points at the Evening Celebration on Dover Seafront.

People are encouraged to get together with colleagues, club members, friends or neighbours as a group. If you are not part of a group, they can put you together with others in a team. Volunteers must be aged 16 and over, although spaces for 16 and 17 year-olds are limited. Volunteers must be available to attend a one hour training session on Saturday 14 July, and if selected as a Team Leader also for a two and a half hour training session on Wednesday 27 June. All marshals will receive training, clothing, refreshments and a commemorative baseball hat.

Volunteers need to register online by Monday 11 June 2012. For more information or to register, visit the DDC website at www.dover.gov.uk or call 01304 872446.
