Active Dover celebrates sports grants

Tuesday, 29 May 2012
In this exciting year for sport, a special Grants Celebration Evening was held at Deal Indoor Tennis Centre on Friday (25 May 2012) for 17 sports clubs and 17 individuals who have benefited from Active Dover funding to support sport in the local community.

The evening was held to congratulate recipients of the Active Dover grants from the last two years, and to recognise the clubs and athletes for all the hard work they have put into sport. Active Dover grants are available to clubs and individuals to increase participation and excellence in sport, and promote active recreation in the area.

Grant recipients were congratulated by representatives from Dover District Council, Dover Town Council and Deal Town Council, who together contributed around £6,500 a year for the grants. The event also featured a lively display by local cheerleading squad, the Vista Twisters, and impressive tennis demonstrations, and interactive games.

The Active Dover Grant Fund is administered by DDC's Community and Leisure Team. It is open to all sports clubs and individuals in Dover District, and is given primarily to individuals competing at a county or national standard, or to clubs looking to further development and to increase participation in sport.

DDC Cabinet Member for Community, Housing and Youth, Cllr Sue Chandler said: "We were very pleased to recognise the commitment shown by the many individuals and clubs in our community in this Olympic year, and with partners, we were delighted to congratulate them for all the work they do to represent or develop sport in the area."
