Successful Campaign Helps Stop Drink Spiking

Tuesday, 1 February 2011
Almost 30,000 devices that help to stop drinks being spiked have been distributed to pubs and clubs in Dover District in December and January, as part of work to continue to promote community safety and make sure the district continues to be a safe place.

The 'Spikeys' were distributed by the Dover District Community Safety Partnership in the run-up to Christmas, and in follow-up visits in January. The devices are special plastic inserts, which are put into bottles to stop drink spiking.

Nadeem Aziz, Chairman of the Dover District Community Safety Partnership said: "The campaign has been a great success, and we have been very pleased with the positive response from pubs and clubs. Although this is not a particular issue for the area, the campaign was launched to raise awareness and make sure that everyone remained safe, while enjoying the festive season and beyond. We continue to work with our partners to make sure the district remains a safe place to live, work and visit."
