Recycling Team Takes To The Streets

Tuesday, 9 August 2011
A new team is out and about across Dover District making sure residents know all about the new recycling and waste collections.

Darren Roberts, Becci Green, David Lane and Jackie Elliott are visiting homes to talk to people about the new service, and answer any questions they may have about the changes and recycling generally.

It is just one way that the council is getting the message across. The communications campaign, funded by the Waste Resources Action Programme, includes leaflets and service guides delivered to homes across the district, advertising and promotion through local newspapers, local radio and posters, and road shows.

The first of the road shows took place today (Tuesday 9 August 2011) at Stembrook Car Park in Dover, with further road shows being organised across the district - for more details see the DDC website.

The new service will be rolled out in Dover District starting from 12 September. It includes a weekly collection of all food waste, and an improved recycling collection that will take plastic packaging like yogurt pots, ice cream tubs and food trays, not just plastic bottles.

Roger Walton, DDC Director of Environment and Corporate Assets, said: "The aim of the communications campaign is to show how the new collections work and how residents can recycle more, and to encourage residents to use the new services and help protect our environment for the future."

Alternative collection methods will be used for homes that cannot have wheeled bins. For more details, see the DDC website at www.dover.gov.uk.
