Port of Dover supports East Kent Rugby Tournament

Wednesday, 9 November 2011
Last weekend Dover Rugby Club, supported by the Port of Dover, hosted the third East Kent rugby tournament for under-seven and under-eight year old children. Despite the rain, the weather did not dampen any of the children's spirits.

A flourishing and popular club, Dover was able to offer players to other teams including Sheppey, Deal and Ash, which were in need of additional players in order to field a complete team and participate in the tournament. Ironically, Dover's Jo Sabin was awarded Sheppey's player of the day.

Richard Catt, Chairman of Dover Rugby Football Club, commented: "It was a great day for the youngsters and we are very grateful once again to the Port of Dover for its support."

This was the first East Kent tournament to have the added support of the Port and, as part of its continuing commitment to grassroots rugby in Dover; the trophies were presented by the Port of Dover's Director of Finance and Commercial, Tim Waggott.

Mr Waggott added: "It was extremely rewarding to see the enthusiasm shown by young children through such a unifying community sporting event. I was delighted to make the presentations as part of the Port's work in the local community."
