Thursday, 18 August 2011
This week, the Institute of Transport Management confirmed that the Port of Dover has been short-listed for the Eco Port 2011-12 Award of Excellence. Since its inception in 1977 the Institute has been disseminating information to its membership worldwide, regarding developments in policies and services pertaining to all aspects of the transportation industry.

Stephen O'Farrelly, Awards Liaison Officer, Institute of Transport Manager commented: "One of our core activities is to recognise excellence in the industry and following extensive research and accreditation programmes, recommend specific companies to our membership and affiliated institutes worldwide. Having assessed the relevant criteria, it has become apparent that Dover Port is clearly leading the way and worthy of this nomination for accreditation."

O'Farrelly continued: "Following requests from our membership, the executive committee - and under the banner of the Freight Services industry - undertook to research which ports are the most environmentally conscious. Dover is indeed one of those ports as it demonstrates an excellence in and ongoing commitment to environmental issues."

Bob Goldfield, Chief Executive said: "We are delighted to be short-listed for such a prestigious nomination. We were the first port in Europe to obtain certification for our Environmental Management System back in 2002 and we will continue to improve our environmental performance as knowledge and technology allows this field to develop further."
