Port Of Dover Police Take On London To Brighton Bike Ride

Tuesday, 14 June 2011
Three Port of Dover Police Officers will be taking on the challenge that is the 54 mile London to Brighton bike ride this Sunday (19 June 2011).

The team, 'POD POL PEDALLERS', will be pushing their bodies to the limit mentally and physically in order to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. Despite already being keen bikers they have not taken the challenge lightly and have spent many hours pedalling around the Kent countryside in preparation.

PC Helen Tomkin said: "This is going to be a tough challenge, the team is not looking forward to the infamous Ditchling Beacon Hill, despite all the hours of practice under our belts - let's hope the wind is behind us! But it's all for a good cause and that will spur us on. We're really pleased to have had support and encouragement from Dover Harbour Board who have kindly provided the cycling shirts as well as fantastic support from individuals in the Port of Dover community who've sponsored us personally. The British Heart Foundation is 50 years old this year which makes it extra special for us to be taking part and raising money in one of their most iconic charity events."
