Dover Grammar School for Girls Win Kent Final Of Young Enterprise

Tuesday, 10 May 2011
Dover Grammar School for Girls has won the Kent Final of the Young Enterprise award scheme representing the Dover District Area. Their company 'FUNdamentools' is mentored by Lesley James, one of Dover Harbour Board's team of advisors working with local schools. 'FUNdamentools' picked up the University of Greenwich Award for overall winning company and the Kent Foundation Award for most innovative product.

Dover Harbour Board, the major sponsor of the scheme in Dover District since 2007 has seen three out of the last four year's Dover winners reach the South East of England finals. The first year saw the Green Footprint Company from Dover Grammar School for Boys reach the UK finals where they were awarded second place behind a Young Enterprise company from Scotland and the following year 'Harmedia' a Young Enterprise company from Sir Roger Manwood's School reached second place in the South East of England final. Both schools were mentored by Dover Harbour Board volunteers.

Looking to repeat the success and go even further in the competition, mentor and business advisor Lesley James said: "We're hoping to build on the success of the last few years and I'm confident that 'FUNdamentools' will make a real impact at the regional heats. There's no reason why we shouldn't aim high and go all the way to the international competition. This group has shown a real passion for their product and a maturity and business sense beyond their years. They have been a pleasure to mentor over the past year."

Mr Matthew Bartlett, Headmaster of Dover Grammar School for Girls said: "We are delighted yet again to be working with the Dover Harbour Board and appreciate all the help and support given by their business advisors. We also recognise that the kind of support given by the port is not common across other parts of Kent."
