Restauranteur Charged With Drug Smuggling

UK Border Agency officers in Dover have charged a man from France with drug smuggling.

Thierry Macel, 43, of Mance in France has been remanded in custody after appearing in Dover Magistrates court yesterday, 4 February 2010. He will re-appear there on 11 February 2010.

Mr Macel was arrested following an incident on the 3 February at the Channel Tunnel entrance in Coquelles, France. UK Border Agency officers searched a French registered vehicle and found one and a half kilos of cocaine, with an estimated street value of £60,000, concealed within the boot area.

Enquiries by UK Border Agency investigators are continuing.
