Man Charged With Drug Smuggling

Thursday, 4 March 2010
UK Border Agency officers in Dover have charged a 61 year-old lorry driver with drug smuggling.

Alan Roy Davage, of Mannock Way, Leighton Buzzard has been remanded in custody until he next appears at Folkestone Magistrates Court on 5 March.

Davage was arrested on 3 March at the inward freight controls at Dover's Eastern Docks. UK Border Agency officers had searched a lorry loaded with car parts and plants and found approximately 18 kilos of a white powder, which tested positive to cocaine, in wine boxes in one of the lorry's side lockers. The drugs have an estimated street value of £720,000.

Enquiries by UK Border Agency investigators are continuing.
