General Election Announced

The Prime Minister has announced that the Parliamentary Election will be held on Thursday 6 May 2010.

Poll Cards will be issued shortly. If you do not receive a Poll Card by 13 April 2010 please telephone the Elections Helpline.

If your name is not currently included in the register of electors you have until 5pm on Tuesday 20 April to submit a completed application form to register.

Anyone wishing to apply to vote by post or wishing to change existing postal or proxy arrangements must submit a completed application form by 5pm on Tuesday 20 April 2010.

New applications to vote by proxy must be received by 5pm on Tuesday, 27th April 2010 except in cases where unforeseen illness or incapacity occurs after that time in which case applications may be made up until 5pm on Thursday, 6th May 2010.

You can obtain application forms to register or for postal and proxy votes by telephoning the Elections Helpline.

Nomination papers for anyone wanting to stand for election are available from the Acting Returning Officer, Election Office, Council Offices, White Cliffs Business Park, Dover, Kent, CT16 3PJ. Anyone wishing to obtain Nomination Papers should telephone the Elections Helpline for an appointment.

Completed nomination papers together with the deposit of £500 must be submitted in person by the Candidate/Election Agent between 10am and 4pm on any weekday (excluding bank holidays) following publication of Notice of Election and by 4pm on Tuesday 20 April 2010.
