Active Dover Celebrates Sports Grants

Sunday, 20 June 2010
A special celebration for 14 sports clubs and 19 individuals, who have benefited from funding to support sport in the community over the last year, was held at Dover Sea Sports Centre on Thursday (17 June).

The celebration was coordinated by 'Active Dover', a partnership of local organisations that have come together to increase participation and excellence in sport, and active recreation across Dover District.

Successful grant recipients were met and congratulated by Councillors from Dover District Council, Dover Town Council, Deal Town Council, Sandwich Town Council and Walmer Parish Council. The event also featured a lively display by local cheerleading squad, the Vista Twisters.

The sports grant fund is administered by DDC's Sports Development Officer Sarah Philpott. It is open to all sports clubs and individuals in Dover District, and is given primarily to individuals competing at a county or national standard, or to clubs looking to further development and to increase participation in sport.

Dover District Council's Vice-Chairman Cllr Sue Nicholas, who attended the event said: "The aim of the evening was to recognize the commitment shown by the many sports individuals and clubs in our community and to congratulate them for all their efforts to either represent or develop sport in the local area in the last year."
