Working Together Helps The Over 60s

Monday, 11 May 2009
Dover District Council, The Pension Service and partners have been working together to ensure that residents in the district who are 60 and over have access to all the benefits and services to which they are entitled. This combined approach has led to £671,320 extra benefits being awarded over the past ten months.

This joint service offers the opportunity for residents to ask for a home visit from one of our specialist visiting officers who can give advice and help about claiming Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Pension Credits and Attendance Allowance.

Margaret Smith from Deal, who has used the service, said: "This service has been a wonderful help to me and has improved my life."

A DWP spokesperson said: "People's circumstances change all the time and even those who have not been eligible for help in the past may be now. Whether it's through Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance or Carer's Allowance, money is there to be paid to those who need it."

Brinley Hill, DDC Community Development Manager, said: "By working together with DWP, we will ensure that people over 60 are getting the benefits they are entitled to."

If you are aged 60 years old or over and would like to check that you are getting all the benefits and services that are available to you, contact the Health and Well-being Team at Dover District Council on 01304 872338.
