Mail Jailed For Ten Years For Drugs Smuggling

Tuesday, 3 November 2009
A 29 year old lorry driver has been jailed for ten years, after being convicted of smuggling cannabis and amphetamines worth £3,575,000 into the UK hidden under a load of ceiling tiles. Investigators from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) interviewed Grzegorz Miszczak after UK Border Agency (UKBA) officers discovered the drugs in his lorry.

Miszczak was stopped on 23 August 2009, after he arrived at Dover on a ferry from Dunkerque. Officers searched the vehicle and some of the boxes in the load declared as ceiling tiles, contained the amphetamine powder and cannabis. Following the discovery of the drugs, Miszczak was arrested, interviewed and subsequently charged by HMRC Investigation officers.

Miszczak pleaded guilty on 2 November 2009 at Canterbury Crown Court to smuggling 33 kilos herbal cannabis worth £95,000, 62.8 kilos of cannabis resin worth £180,000 and 96.9 kilos (34.2 kilos at 100% purity) of amphetamine powder worth £3.3 million into the UK.
