Kearsney Abbey And Russell Gardens Play Areas - Views Sought

Thursday, 27 August 2009
Exciting ideas are being sought for an innovative and creative play area for Kearsney Abbey, and for improvements to play facilities in Russell Gardens - and a special consultation event is being held at Kearsney Abbey play area on Wednesday 16 September from 3.30pm-5pm to hear your views on both projects.

Consultation events start in September to find out exactly what local people want to see at Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens play areas. This includes consultation with River Primary School, as well as the community consultation event at Kearsney Abbey.

Consultation is being carried out by the Kent Children's Fund Network on behalf of Dover District Council. Works will be funded using money from planning agreements. Further consultation is planned for January 2010 to feedback on design proposals.

Projects for Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens are planned to be completed by the Easter holidays 2010. This follows the launch of innovative new play areas at Pencester Gardens and Marke Wood, and the anticipated completion of a new play area at Connaught Park by early 2010. The refurbishment of strategic play areas is in keeping with the Dover District Play Strategy and DDC's commitment to develop strategic play areas across the district.

Cllr Nigel Collor, DDC Cabinet Member for Access and Property Management, said: "We continue to work to provide exciting and challenging play facilities for the district. These latest projects form an important part of our ongoing commitment to improve strategic sites across the area, and we look forward to hearing people's views."

In the event of wet weather, the consultation event at Kearsney Abbey will be held at River Primary School. For more information, contact Laura Corby at DDC on 01304 872448 or the Kent Children's Fund Network on 01233 632957.
